United, Arsenal set for 'historic' clash

LONDON: Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes Sunday's Premier League showdown against Arsenal will provide another historic
Ferguson

chapter in his club's ferocious feud with the Gunners.

By the time Arsenal and United kick-off at the Emirates Stadium, Chelsea, who have a game in hand on both teams, could have opened up a four-point lead at the top with a win over Burnley on Saturday.

For much of Ferguson's 24-year reign at Old Trafford it has been Arsenal who have provided the main resistance to his empire-building and the old rivals go head to head with their title hopes at stake once again.

Ferguson fulfilled his ambition to knock Liverpool "off their perch" at the top of English football years ago and Chelsea have only emerged as serious challengers in recent years, but Arsenal, whether managed by Arsene Wenger or George Graham, have always been a thorn in United's side.

From the moment Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn launched a tirade of abuse at Brian McClair following the United star's missed penalty in an FA Cup tie in 1988, there has been an extra edge to clashes between these super-powers.

The list of grudge matches is endless and endlessly entertaining: Roy Keane's tunnel row with Patrick Vieira; Martin Keown's frenzied celebration of a Ruud van Nistelrooy penalty miss and the Battle of the Buffet that saw Ferguson hit by pizza thrown by Arsenal players after a particularly spicy encounter are just a few of the more notable bust-ups.

Ferguson's strained relationship with Wenger has often provided these games with an intriguing sub-plot, but they are closer these days and happy to savour such a big occasion.

"These games with Arsenal are historic," Ferguson said. "Since I came down here, apart from the early years before George Graham won his first title, it was Arsenal and United who were mostly competing for the trophies.

"Without doubt Chelsea have become a prominent team in that respect too and it has been ourselves and Chelsea challenging for the league in the last few years.

"But you can never dismiss Arsenal because their history will always guarantee a challenge. And they are definitely in the fray again.

"Sunday's game has great relevance because both sides have a genuine chance of winning the league."

Wenger has always seemed more uncomfortable when the flak has been flying, but he would happily get under Ferguson's skin again because it would prove Arsenal are serious contenders once more.

His squad certainly looks capable of pushing United and Chelsea all the way after over-coming a lengthy injury list to erase an 11-point gap to the leaders.

Even without injured duo Thomas Vermaelen and Eduardo - both sidelined by knocks during the midweek draw at Aston Villa - Wenger is confident his players will rise to the occasion.

"I look forward to it because it is a match which always promises good football," Wenger said.

"Manchester United and Arsenal have had some tough games, and sometimes they were not easy on the physical side, but both teams always tried to play.

"It was very rarely a boring game, you always thought at the start it would be a great football game, and so you love that. It is always one of the games of the season."

Wenger will hand Sol Campbell his first league start since returning to the club. Nicklas Bendter or Samir Nasri will deputise for Eduardo, while Alex Song and Emmanuel Eboue are back from African Cup of Nations duty.

United will be without suspended defender Rio Ferdinand but that loss is offset by Serbian centre-back Nemanja Vidic's return from injury and Ferguson can also rely on in-form striker Wayne Rooney, who has 13 goals from his last 13 appearances.

With games against Chelsea and Liverpool to come, this is a defining period for Arsenal, but Wenger is just happy to be in the hunt again.

"We love being in the race. Of course it was our dream to be in this position," he said.

Lalit Modi alone responsible for IPL fiasco: PCB

NEW DELHI: Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ejaz Butt has squarely blamed the Indian Premier League (IPL) and its commissioner Lalit Modi for
Butt
ignoring Pakistani players for the third season of India's Twenty20 league, but said it will not have any long term effect on sporting ties between the two countries.

"This (decision to keep out Pakistani players) has nothing to do with Indo-Pak relations in cricket. This is between IPL and us. They have made a mistake, whether purposefully we don't know. But I strongly feel it was a wrong decision on their part not to consider any of our boys," Butt said.

IPL franchise owners did not bid for Pakistani players during the auction for the IPL3, which has snowballed into a major spat between the two countries. In the latest move, the PCB has revoked its no objection certificates to players to participate in the IPL. This means that no Pakistani player will be able to play in IPL this year even if any Indian team seek their inclusion at a later stage.

Butt thinks "the responsibility is solely with IPL and Lalit Modi".

"IPL is giving statements against Pakistani players despite many people in Pakistan and India having asked us to move on. We still don't know any reason why has this not been entertained yet by IPL."

The PCB chief also questioned Modi's "motive" behind the controversy.

"You must ask Modi about the motive. Why he did this we don't understand. I don't think anybody in India or Pakistan understands this. I spoke to Modi in London during the T20 World Cup. He explained the reasons why the boys were not considered in South Africa (last year). I understood and then he assured me all would be playing in next IPL (IPL3)."

never loose hope u will crack jee

Recently I received a comment on my article Loss in self confidence by Akash.
He said
Myself Akash. I have totally lost hope!!... It’s like everything looks hell for me!! Please help!! I have lot of backlog created. I am in class 12th. How should I prepare?
Well the above problem is normal and I can understand how you feel since I also went through this stage in 12th.But somehow came out from it

Don’t Loose Hope...

It’s about last year when I was in 12th I failed in my first unit test school exams. I also got a lot of backs in my 12th standard. But it wasn’t too late since August month was still going on and I knew that I have 7 months left to prepare.

I Pulled Up My Socks...

I used the trick given in the article cant concentrate on studies and didn’t watch TV for 1 week although I used to go out to play for 1 hour daily. I made up my mind that whatever it is don’t give up.

Stop Counting The Number Of Days Left ...

Stop counting the number of days left. It will make you more nervous unnecessarily
It’s always psychologically positive to say 7 months instead of 210 days :)

Tips From IIT Toppers For You…

Achin Bansal (IITJEE 2007 topper)
Work very hard. There is no substitute for hardwork. When you inch close to the exam remain relaxed. Stress can sometimes hamper results. Work Hard and leave the rest to god

Shailedra Thakur (IITJEE 1995)
My advice to students is that never lose the battle of the mind.

Srikanth Jagabathula (IIT Bombay gold medalist)
Don’t get bogged down by pressure, work is duty. You have to really slog it out to get through the test. You should be motivated throughout and Never ever in you dreams give up.

What Would Happen If They Had lost Hope…?

Albert Einstein: if Albert Einstein would have lost hope and thought about his failures of his past do you think he would become one of the greatest scientists of all.

Thomas Edison: When Thomas Edison was interviewed by a young reporter who boldly asked Mr. Edison if he felt like a failure and if he thought he should just give up by now. Confused, Edison replied, "Young man, why would I feel like a failure? And why would I ever give up? I now know definitively over 9,000 ways that an electric light bulb will not work. Success is almost in my grasp." And shortly after that, and over 10,000 attempts, Edison invented the light bulb. So do you think if Edison had lost hope earlier then an electric light bulb would be invented?

Forget the past...

Forget the past. I mean stop thinking about the backlogs. It’s of no use thinking that I am losing my confidence and losing hope. It’s of no use believes me.

Here is the trick for you...Just for one week …

See forget about past and take any day for e.g. Monday and be rock rigid that you will be studying and only studying for 7 days.Dont think about anything about your failure for 1 week. Just for 1 week .This trick is tried and it is the best to come out of these types of situations. After 7 days you will be able to see you confidence level increasing and you will be forced to study automatically and of course you will also start enjoying your studies.

Don't Give Up Too Early...

Never Lose hope and keep working, anyone who works hard will definitely make it and its only a matter of time

What’s important is hardwork sincerity and faith in oneself.

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”

3 idiots a story of three jee aspirant

Of course, this is not any kind of a movie review. Laughing

I am going to tell you a story of 3 Idiots (IIT aspirants) who were NOT able to crack the IIT JEE just because of some silly reasons I hope you don’t repeat the same.

Idiot No 1

Hmm…what to say about this guy. He lost the battle for IITJEE just because of overloading himself with lots of books.

His study room was nothing less than a complete Library containing books for IITJEE. He almost had all the books for IITJEE preparation which were available in the market. Some of the books were recommended for JEE while others were simply useless.

Daily he used to ask himself the same question….

“From which books to start…….HC Verma or Resnick Halliday…. I think Resnick Halliday is better.

This caused a lot of time wastage as most of the time was spent in the selection and the choice of books. In this way his precious 1 year got wasted and 1 month before JEE he was still confused from which book to study.

Guys believe me this is a major mistake committed by many IITJEE aspirants. They overload themselves with lots of books and finally end up doing nothing.

Idiots Advice: Never overload yourself with tons of books. Two to Three books are sufficient to crack JEE and try to repeat the same problems if possible.

Idiot No 2

You may call this guy as a Brand Ambassador of PROCRASTINATION. He wasn’t able to crack IITJEE just because he used to procrastinate a lot.

Every day he made false promises to himself about his preparations. Once day he said” I will finish of this mechanics today” and as usual the work got postponed for tomorrow. Finally 1 month before JEE he realized that he had completed only 50% of the portion that too NOT SINCERELY and as expected he did not even fetch an EML rank in IITJEE even after studying for 2 years continuously. The main reason- Procrastination

Idiots Advice: Never procrastinate. If you are still postponing your work for tomorrow then be ready to face the music.Wink

Idiot No 3

He always used to overstress himself for everything he used to do. While preparing for IITJEE he was mostly tensed. This affected his preparation and results badly and so he was not able to clear JEE.

Idiots Advice: Don’t worry too much. This is a major problem I've seen. People worry so much about classes / test series/ correspondence / teachers / batches / quality / notes / books / college / friend / girlfriend / boyfriend / food / hostel / accommodation... u get the point... If I were to say it bluntly - Just shut up Sealed, open the book, and start doing the damn problems!! Cool

So I hope you learnt something from these 3 Idiots and will try NOT to repeat what they did
